Badger shaving brush and why we love them.
Why we love a Badger Shaving Brush.
About 2 weeks ago gentleman ordered a Badger Shaving Brush from us. He obviously new what he wanted and why he wanted it.
Only a few days ago I posted a video where I reviewed Musgo Real Shaving Cream. Check out the video here
After filming the cameraman asked why I was using a Badger Brush. Obviously he wasn’t as knowledgable as the client mentioned earlier and that is nothing to be ashamed of. The cameraman is a young chap and has a resemblance of a beard. I don’t think a blade has ever crossed his chin, so how would he know of the finer details of shaving. Please believe me that investing in a Badger Shaving Brush is an astute decision.
So here is a quick summary of the reasons of using a Badger Shaving Brush.
Wet shavers and Barbers very nearly always prefer to use Badger Brushes.
A Badger Brush especially a silvertip has very fine hairs. These are harvested from the neck of the Badger.
The brush holds water very well and also keeps the heat from the hot water.
More water = more lather
On average a silver tip brush will have about 1400 hairs and generally hand knotted into the base.
With so many hairs and use of a circular motion while lathering the face, the brush will lift the mans stubble while exfoliating at the same time. By lifting the stubble the razor will then shave easily with little pressure applied. To much pressure on the blade often causes the irritation or “razor burn” that so many men complain about.
A pure Badger Brush, with the right care, can last between 15 – 20 years.
Types of Badger Brushes in ascending order of quality are:
Pure, Best, Super & Silvertip.
We stock Badger Brushes here at the Barbers of Warwick. Prices start from £24.00 for a Pure Badger.
